"Do I need a map as well as a guide book?"
"Will a strip map of the walk do the job, or should I take an OS sheet as well?"
I'm not asking the questions on my own behalf, but as one who visits a few forums like this I know these are common questions.
Recent weather - extremely wet - drives home the point that when you come to a river crossing that is impassable due to flood water, an OS sheet will help you devise options. Strip maps and guide books aren't likely to show the nearest bridge. |

Is that a point made following some horribly bitter experience Stottie? If so, I hope you have dried out now.. _________________ Yep, that's it, right there.

It's a point that came to mind during the downpours that were afflicting the walking fraternity a few weeks ago. I was feeling sorry for anyone who reached a crossing point, only to find it impassable and the guidebook useless for resolving their dilemma, namely whether the nearest bridge is upstream of downstream. When you're wet and tired and fed up, it's nice to know such things. |
